Description:

Collects garbage/household trash placed at curbside in city-provided carts. Carts should be placed by 7:00 am and removed by 7:30 pm although allowance are made for extending hours till the next morning based on working hours due to holidays, inclement weather, and equipment failures; garbage pickup once weekly; recycled items also picked up once weekly, both on customer scheduled collection day. Recycling collection is offered to single family residential customers only. Bulk waste, also offered only to single family residential customers, is collected twice per month on a schedule. Refer to calendar at https://www.memphisth.gov/solid-waste/. Call 311 for missed garbage, recycle, and bulk waste collections, or for collection of dead animals, within city limits o fee for dead animal pickup, which is not available on weekends,, city holidays, or evenings. Dead animals must be in the public right of way for collection. Waivers granted for persons who cannot push carts to curb are available by calling 311. Additional carts can be leased for $10/month be calling 311. More information can be found on the website. Repair or replace damaged or lost carts by calling 311;carts lost to fire or other user negligence will be charged a $50.00 replacement fee.

Shelby County residents outside Memphis City Limits must obtain sanitation collection services from private companies.

Program Fees:

$29.96/month for residences; Starts at $79.64/month for businesses (can go up depending on amount of waste). MLGW collects this fee. No fee for dead animal pickup, which is not available on weekends, city holidays or evenings. Animals are not collected from private property; property owners must collect animal in plastic bag at the curb, between the sidewalk and the curb for pickup. No fee for recycling.

Residents 65 and older or with a disability may be eligible for discounted rates.
