Description:

Shelby County Behavioral Health Services supports persons participating in Mental Health Court and helps person who are being offered probation or a referral to mental health programs in lieu of incarceration. Uses evidence based practices, promotes individual and community safety, collaborates with community behavioral health and support services and provides community supervision of these individuals. The agency also assesses needs and finds appropriate community based support for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness in the justice system. This program looks at issues like PTSD, child sexual abuse, bipolar disorder, etc., to determine if participants can get treatment at a center instead of being incarcerated, which exacerbates mental illness.

Hours:

Mon - Fri 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Requires referral from Shelby County courts

Fees may apply for some programs; most programs are free or funded through other sources

Eligibility:

Offenders in Shelby County with mental health or behavioral issues that are good candidates for alternatives to incarceration
