The James H Quillen College of Medicine is one of two public medical schools in Tennessee. It was named for Congressman Jimmy Quillen, who sought to open a second public medical school in Tennessee.
The James H Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University is ranked sixth in the nation for excellence in rural medicine education. It is ranked 20th in the nation for family medicine education.
The college offers more than 40 specialties and subspecialities in medicine, surgery, women's health, pediatrics and psychiatry. It has a 1:1 student/faculty ratio and a 100% residency placement.
