AKA:

Clerk's Div; County Drive While You Pay Program;Shelby County Drivers License Recovery Program; DAP

Description:

Provides a program through Shelby County General Sessions Court Clerk's Division that helps persons whose drivers license has been suspended or revoked due to unpaid court costs or fines from misdemeanor citations issued in Shelby County get their licenses back. Under the DAP program, eligible drivers work out a contract with the Clerk's Office and make a down payment based on a percentage of the total amount owed. The down payment is usually 10% of the total amount or defendants can elect to pay a settlement amount of a 50% payable lump sum. Individuals who are not able to or interested in the 50% settlement amount typically work out a monthly payment plan, and the Clerk's Office subsequently provides him or her with release papers to take to a driver's license reinstatement center (East Shelby Driver License Reinstatement Center is at 3200 E Shelby Drive, Memphis.) This is a "Pay as you Go" program that allows you to drive legally while paying off fines.
