Host Homes - Space for Homeless Youth

Description:

The Host Home program is an innovative approach to addressing our community's homelessness crisis. Host Homes is a volunteer-based program that connects young adults (aged 18-25) with community members who have underutilized spaces in their homes, young adults not only obtain access to short-term shelter but are also able to build meaningful connections to caring adults in their community. The program provides a safe, temporary, welcoming space for up to six months where the young person has time to repair their relationships with self-identified family or make decisions about other housing options with the support of a caring housing case manager.

The Program is seeking applicants both from those seeking space as well as those looking to share it.

Hours:

8:00am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday

None for those seeking space.

Eligibility:

For those Seeking Space:
Meet with a Housing Case Manager to verify qualifications.
Be willing to meet with the case manager throughout the planning and housed period.
Be between the ages of 18 and 25.
Be willing to work to restore self-identified familial relationships and/or work toward other housing options.

For those looking to share space:

Have an extra bedroom which provides privacy for the youth.
Be 25 Years old or older.
Have lived in Memphis area for at least a year.
Complete the Application form.
Have renters or homeowners' insurance, providing a file copy as requested.
Provide three references.
Authorize and pass background checks.
Complete necessary interviews
Complete the initial training session.
