Home buyers who complete the first time home buyer education training may qualify for down payment assistance or special financing with Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA), USDA-Rural Housing, VA, FHA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, The Housing Fund, and local banks in Nashville. The workshop covers: budgeting and credit, qualifying for a mortgage loan approval, selecting a real estate agent, shopping for a home, making an offer and the home inspection, closing costs, loan estimates and home maintenance.

Office hours: Mon - Fri 9:00 am - 5:00 pm; the workshop is held on select Saturdays from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm; it is also available online.

$99 for up to 2 people on the same loan; fee includes materials.

New Level CDC, in partnership with First Tennessee Bank, offers a matched savings program to help people purchase their first home.

Eligibility

Households must have: a minimum credit score of 640 or the ability to reach that score; a steady monthly income that will enable them to purchase a home; and a debt-to-income ratio of 43% or less.

Fees

No fee. Selected participants must save $2,000 in a First Tennessee account within 3 to 12 months. First Tennessee will provide a match of up to $2,000.
