Conexion Americas' mission is to build a welcoming community and create opportunities for Latino families to belong, contribute, and succeed. The agency does this through three focus areas: economic prosperity, education, and community development/advocacy. Their economic prosperity programs, all free or low cost and delivered in Spanish, include: online English classes, digital literacy classes (basic computing, Excel, Quickbooks), Entrepreneurship & business skills classes, small business coaching, tax preparation & ITIN/W7 application/renewal, financial counseling and workforce development. Their community center, Casa Azafran, includes Mesa Komal Culinary Incubator, a shared kitchen space for entrepreneurs who own or want to start their own food business. Our education programs include a Spanish-language family engagement program and a college readiness afterschool program delivered at select Davidson County Schools. Casa Azafran is also an early voting site.

Eligibility:
Latino individuals and families in the Middle TN area; priority is given to low-income and immigrant neighbors for rentals for the Mesa Komal shared kitchen facility; applicants for Mesa Komal will be assessed as to their willingness to start or improve an existing food business as well as their ability to cooperate and work alongside other entrepreneurs.

Volunteer Opportunities:
Full- and part-time Spanish-speaking and non-Spanish-speaking volunteers are welcome to teach an English as a Second Language (ESL) class; assist with childcare during parent workshops; work with nationally recognized taxpayer and small business development programs; interpret at workshops, meetings and special events; lead children's activities at parent engagement workshops; and help with set-up and registration at special events.

Description
Beginning and intermediate English as a Second Language classes are offered to non-native English speakers. The curriculum covers a broad spectrum of topics, and aims to improve English speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills.
Hours
The classes, taught by volunteer teachers and teacher assistants, meet twice a week, and meet online. Terms run January to May or September to December. Childcare provided, if needed.

Description
Mesa Komal, a shared kitchen space for entrepreneurs operated by Conexion Americas, carefully screens applicants in order to find indicators that suggest an entrepreneur's business readiness level. This screening process is also based on the facility's capacity in terms of space, equipment and scheduling availability.

Puertas Abiertas, which translates to "Open Doors", assists Latino families in achieving the dream of homeownership by offering financial education, counseling, and access to financing. The program also provides information to help homeowners avoid a foreclosure in difficult economic times.
