ITN Memphis- Transportation Option for Seniors/Adults with Visual Impairments

Description:

Provides rides with door-to-door service to seniors and persons with visual impairments. ITN Memphis allows seniors to trade their cars for ride credits and enables volunteer drivers to store transportation credits for their future transportation needs. Specialized software allows the agency to track credits and schedule rides. Some scholarships may be available for persons with low-incomes who need rides.

Intake Process:

Complete application online or call for an application to be mailed to you. Riders will be picked up inside the I-240 Loop but destination can be anywhere in the greater Memphis area.

Program Fees:

Annual membership fees of $45.00/individuals and $65.00/family membership plus fees for rides. Members must open a prepaid transportation account with a minimum of $50.00. There is a $1.50/mile charge and a pickup charge of $3.00/trip; the average cost is $11.00 for a one way trip. Sharing rides cuts down on the cost. No money changes hands between drivers and riders and tips are not accepted. Gift certificates can be purchased for family and friends and Road Scholarships may be available for eligible persons with low income.

Eligibility:

Seniors 60 and older and persons with visual impairments who need transportation in Memphis, or persons who wish to volunteer as drivers. Drivers may earn credits for themselves, a family member or friend or may donate credits to low income members.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Volunteer Drivers ALWAYS needed to drive seniors or person with visual impairments; drivers earn credits for future use or may give them to a family member, friend or back to ITN. Volunteers must have a valid ID with at least three years driving experience, clean driving record, currently registered vehicle, pass a criminal background check, provide 3 personal references from a non-relative and commit to volunteering for at least one year for at least 3 hours/month.
