Description:
Provides information about city tow truck ordinances. Ordinances limits storage fees for towed vehicles, requires tow truck drivers to obtain a city permit and undergo drug testing and background checks, and requires that tow truck drivers get authorization from the Memphis Police Department (MPD) before towing a vehicle. A newly established seven member board, the Memphis Transportation Commission, will be appointed to accept citizen complaints regarding tow trucks, taxis, limousines, shuttle services, horse carriages and courtesy drivers. The board has the authority to investigate complaints against tow truck companies and all transportation companies that operate in Memphis, and if a tow is determined to be unjustified, the board has options to sanction the company with fines, probation and/or revocation of license. Office issues: vendor cards, beer permits, dance permits, special permission permits (such as closing streets off), public assembly permits and scrap/junk dealers permits.
