Description:
Bartlett City Court is a court of record, having original and exclusive jurisdiction of all violations of municipal ordinances. This court hears mostly cases involving DUIs, shoplifting and cases of domestic violence; all felonies are heard by the Shelby County Criminal Court at 201 Poplar. This court has the same powers and duties possessed by a Justice of the Peace, regarding the arrest and preliminary trial, discharging, binding over, or punishing under the small offense law, of all persons charged with offenses against the State committed in the City of Bartlett. Appeal is to the Circuit Court of Shelby County. (Will handle appeal cases if defendant agrees to guilty plea to a lesser charge reducing crime to a misdemeanor.)
