Inmate Support Services
Family Prison Visitation Support
Programs that facilitate visits by family members or significant others to people who are inmates in a correctional facility by arranging for or offering local and long-distance transportation, providing current information about visitation conditions, offering a temporary place to stay or sponsoring other similar activities.
Inmate Social Service Programs
Programs that provide any of a variety of social services for individuals who are incarcerated in a correctional facility including personal and family counseling, information about and referrals to community services and connections to other supportive services offered by the institution. Inmate social services may provided by correctional facility staff or by community-based organizations that have a contractual relationship with the correctional system.
Programs within the criminal correctional system that establish accounts for individual inmates into which funds from family, friends and job assignments within the prisons can be deposited. The funds are disbursed upon written authorization from an inmate for personal expenses such as postage, medical expenses and replacement of damaged property. The funds may also be used for shopping in the canteen, purchasing items from approved vendors and magazine subscriptions.
Programs that recruit and train people, usually volunteers, who are interested in providing support and friendship through regular personal visits to individuals who are incarcerated in a correctional facility.
Programs that provide staff who promote agency coordination to improve resources available to juvenile or adult offenders, particularly those who have developmental or mental disabilities.
Programs that provide church services, prayer meetings, religious study classes, pastoral counseling, religious literature and other forms of religious support for inmates in jails, prisons and juvenile detention centers.
