Description:
Provides free and affordable immigration legal services to low income clients. Services include free representation to children facing deportation and assistance in obtaining lawful permanent residency. MIA also represents immigrants who are survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and similar crimes in civil (family law, orders of protection) and immigration law. Intake Process:
Children's Project Eligibility: Individuals who entered the US as unaccompanied minors and who were released to a sponsor by the US Office of Refugee Resettlement in Tennessee, Arkansas or North Mississippi. Survivors' Project Eligibility: Youth and adult immigrant victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking may be eligible for legal services if they live in Shelby, Tipton or Fayette Counties (Tennessee). Call to verify eligibility.
Program Fees:
No Fee for eligible applicants; affordable fees for other clients is sliding scale fee based on income
Languages:
Staff speaks English, Spanish and Dari. Staff can accommodate almost any language through on demand video interpretation, including rare Mayan languages such as Mam, Quiche, Chuj, Ixil, Akateko, Kanjobal and others
Eligibility:
Service area includes the state of TN, north MS, and AR. Children's Project Eligibility: Individuals of any age who entered the US as unaccompanied minors and who were released to a sponsor by the US DHHS Office of Refugee Resettlement within 100 miles of Memphis, TN; MIA Children's Project accepts children facing deportation from Central America; referrals of adult immigrant victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking are accepted through nonprofit CasaLuz
