Description:

Three divisions of this Chancery Court hear cases involving contracts, divorces, adoptions, orders of protection, trusts, liens, attachments, writs of possession and name changes and processes temporary restraining orders in Shelby County, TN. Worker's Compensation cases, which used to be handled by this court, have now been transferred to a separate Workers Compensation Court. Chancery Courts usually handle equity matters (like getting a restraining order), while Circuit Courts usually deal with money damages. NOTE: DUE TO COVID-19, SCHEDULES ARE CONSTANTLY CHANGING AND MANY ISSUES ARE NOW HANDLED ELECTRONICALLY INSTEAD OF IN PERSON, THOUGH SOME LIMITED SLOTS FOR IN PERSON CASES ARE AVAILABLE; CALL OR SEE WEBSITE FOR INFORMATION.
