Description:
Court has jurisdiction over cases involving the protection and/or correction of juveniles who are neglected, unruly, delinquent, and/or traffic violators. Petitions may be filed alleging dependency and neglect or requesting custody, exemption from compulsory school attendance, admission to public school of non-residents, termination of parental rights, and visitation. Complaints concerning alleged juvenile law violators should be made to appropriate law enforcement agency within Memphis and Shelby County, TN. Supervises juveniles on probation or those likely to be placed on supervised probation through trained community volunteers called Auxiliary Probation Officers or APOs. Coordinates check-in and release of all children charged with delinquent and unruly offenses. Helps children in need of alcohol, drug, and mental health services. Maintains juvenile court records and information. Provides child support hearings. Provides legal information and forms for issues such as child support, paternity, custody, and visitation for non-custodial parents who represent themselves in court.
