Description:
Y-CAP (YMCA Community Action Programs) provides programs and experiences that close the opportunity gap for students grades K-12 in Tennessee; this office serves Davidson, Robertson and Williamson Counties.
The agency serves students through literacy tutoring, social and emotional learning programs, and college and career readiness resources!all at no cost. Their mission is to offer support and encouragement to youth from adults who care.
Y-Literacy helps struggling readers in grades K-5 gain confidence by increasing their reading comprehension and literacy skills. Program offers weekly free one-on-one tutoring to students who are reading below their grade level. The curriculum covers the essential components of literacy: phonics, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and sight-word recognition. Y-Literacy currently meets virtually via Zoom.
Y-Quest offers a fun, welcoming space after school Monday through Thursday. Students learn the skills, knowledge, and mindsets they need to handle strong emotions, better understand and connect with their peers, and avoid and resolve conflicts. Y-Quest aims to guide student's progress in emotion management, academic achievement, and building positive identity.
Achievers helps high school students from diverse backgrounds explore both college and career pathways, develop a positive sense of self, and make a plan for the future.

Description
The YMCA Community Action Program (Y-CAP) of Davidson County helps at-risk and underserved youth achieve their brightest possible future by closing the opportunity gap. They serve students through mentoring and coaching, literacy tutoring, intervention and prevention programs, and college access and readiness resource--all at no cost. Positive Beginnings provides middle school students with behavioral problems the chance to begin again. Through coaching, mentoring and cooperation with schools, they help these students learn the skills they need to change the course of their future. The Z Program provides after-school programming to middle school youth at Metro Nashville Public Schools and community sites throughout Davidson County. Students build skills and develop confidence through structured activities in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics), social-emotional learning and character development. YMCA Black Achievers empowers minority and underserved youth in Middle Tennessee with high school, college and career opportunities that encourage students to grow and thrive. YMCA Latino Achievers empowers Latinx and underserved youth ages 14-21 to excel in high school, gain access to higher education, take advantage of scholarship opportunities and find the career path thatâs right for them. The K-12 umbrella currently covers more than 1,200 students from 10 middle schools, 12 high schools and 42 elementary schools in the Metro Nashville Public School district.

Eligibility
Students who attend selected elementary, middle, and high schools. The Achievers programs focus on high school students, Y-Quest reaches middle schoolers and Y-Literacy serves elementary school students. Positive Beginnings provides at-risk middle school students in 6th-8th grade that have been identified by school staff and community partners with year round support. We help guide them to develop the cognitive, physical and social-emotional skills needed to succeed. In this program, staff members deliver services in small groups, using strategies that are appropriate to each participantâs prior experiences.
