Watershed Conservation
Programs that are responsible for restoring and/or managing rivers and streams that have been damaged by natural disasters such as flooding or whose hydrology and biotic integrity are threatened by human activities such as highway, bridge, and pipeline construction; water development; hydroelectric projects; flood control channel modifications; industrial and residential development and the waste they produce; agriculture; irrigation; livestock grazing; and mining.
Programs that provide for the conservation and protection of wetland areas through the acquisition and preservation of endangered wetlands; incentive programs which encourage voluntary wetlands restoration, enhancement and protection by landowners; educational initiatives; and national, state and local land use and other regulatory efforts which seek to minimize the destruction, loss or degradation of wetlands through direct drainage, diversion of surface or ground water sources, excavation, filling and/or conversion for agricultural production or development purposes.
