Description:
The Tennessee Department of Human Services' Division of Rehabilitation Services recognizes the unique needs of individuals who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind and Hard of Hearing. In 2005, the division established a new unit to provide specialized vocational rehabilitation services to eligible clients who are deaf, deaf-blind or hard of hearing. Thirteen (13) Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors, who are specially trained to work and communicate with persons who are deaf, deaf-blind or hard of hearing, provide services that enable their clients to enter, retain, or return to competitive employment. Some of these services may be based upon economic need and may require financial participation on the part of the client.

Mon - Fri 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
Intake Process:
An individual with a disability may apply directly to Vocational Rehabilitation or may be referred by another individual or agency. A referral may be made by contacting a Vocational Rehabilitation office in person, by mail, by telephone or by fax.
Program Fees:
Some services may be based upon economic need and may require financial participation on the part of the client.
Eligibility:
Residents of Tennessee who are deaf, deaf-blind or hard of hearing; who require vocational rehabilitation services to prepare for, secure, retain or regain employment consistent with the their strengths, abilities, capabilities, interests and informed choice; and who can benefit from services in terms of an employment outcome. People who receive SSI or SSDI are presumed eligible for services if they intend to go to work.
