In addition, Student Advocacy Services assists students and their families to understand their rights according to IDEA, Section 504 and Tennessee State Law. Description

Supports people with disabilities as they become successfully employed and productive members of their communities. The document management program provides training and employment to individuals with disabilities while offering quality document preparation, alpha-numeric filing, scanning, sorting, and data entry. Services are currently available in Davidson and Williamson County. NOTE: If the client is in need of job coaching, he/she must first contact Vocational Rehabilitation and reside in either Davidson or Williamson County. Otherwise, the client can reside in any county and go directly to The Arc.

Description

The Arc's Pick Up service will gladly pick up household items and clothing in gently used condition. These items are sold at Southern Thrift stores and the store pays the Arc for the items.

Some items are not accepted, such as mattresses and box springs, sleeper sofas, televisions and electronics older than 4 years, car seats, cribs, bassinets, carpet, construction materials, and large appliances.

Works with individuals who have intellectual and developmental disabilities to support them in employment endeavors. The Arc operates a document management program in which individuals may be employed and also works with clients to support them in other workplaces. Supported or Customized Employment is a process involving: Assessment, or getting to know potential employees and finding out about their interests, abilities, and the areas in which they need help Planning, a person-centered approach to developing work-related goals and strategies to secure the right job match and promote success in that job Job Development, a tailored approach to finding the right job match for each person, and for assisting businesses in securing valuable employees Job Coaching, on-the-job assistance for new employees in learning their jobs, and assistance businesses in learning how to manage new employees Long-term Support, ongoing follow-up with employees and employers to promote and ensure continued success
