Description:

Serves children and families at risk of being committed to State custody, coordinates services for children in state custody, reunifies children with families after state custody. This office in Hohenwald in Lewis County encompasses all aspects of public child welfare, child protective services, adoptions, foster care, delinquent youth and treatment facilities. The agency is responsible for post-adoption functions, putative father registry, sealed centralized record storage system, and coordination of adoption assistance activities for regional offices; foster care applications, placement and follow-up; juvenile treatment facilities in the state; investigations into child abuse and neglect; and serves children and families at risk of being committed to State custody, coordinates services for children in state custody, and reunifies children leaving state custody with their families.

Eligibility:

Children at risk of coming into, or already in, state custody, ages birth to 18; persons wishing to adopt or be a foster parent in the state; persons in the state wishing to adopt or foster a child; persons wishing to report suspected child abuse or neglect. To become a foster or an adoptive parent, you can be married, single or divorced; may or may not have other children; can own your own home or rent, can work full time; must be at least 21; must be a resident of the State of Tennessee; and must be able to meet the financial and emotional needs of your own family.
