The UT & TSU Extension Office provides a wide variety of programs to support the rural community: 4-H youth program and summer camp; agricultural, family, and consumer sciences; food and nutrition education; soil testing; Youth Leadership Cheatham County, Master Gardener program, online homebuyer education, and co-parenting classes. Provides information on gardening, farming, 4-H clubs and nutrition education. Provides information and workshops on money management, needlework, family life, energy/environment, weight control, stress management, nutrition for better health, leadership development, and personal growth. Sponsors the Expanded Food and Nutritional Education Program (EFNEP) for adults with instruction in food preparation/preservation, menu planning, and budgeting. Sponsors Jan-March meetings on topics such as crop and beef cattle production. Sponsors agribusiness workshops and seminars. Supplies containers for mailing soil samples to Nashville for analysis. (Individuals are responsible for mailing samples.) Provides information on livestock, beef, swine and horses. Offers horse management seminar each winter. MANAGE offers workshops, group meetings, and individual farm and home visits. Publishes information on agriculture, adult home economics, food marketing, and agribusiness. Co-parenting classes are offered by some county extension offices for divorcing parents of children under the age of 18 and office serves each county in Tennessee.

Description
The office coordinates summer camp excursions to the W.P. Ridley 4-H Center, which has a beautifully landscaped 49-acre campus conveniently located just off James Campbell Blvd. (Hwy 50) near downtown Columbia. Campers are housed in 10 air-conditioned contemporary-style cabins with clean bath facilities. Home-cooked, nutritious meals are served in the cool comfort of a 425-seat dining hall, and campers may always return for seconds at every meal. The camp is accredited according to the strict guidelines of the American Camp Association. Campers may enjoy an Olympic-size, crystal-clear pool with a 120' figure-8 water slide, a lighted sports complex with softball field, volleyball and basketball courts. Other facilities include a wildlife center, covered rifle range, airbrush center, a creek for aquatic exploration, modern archery range with 3-D targets, low ropes course, and an 18-hole miniature golf course.

Parenting Apart, a co-parenting class, is required for people with minor children who are divorcing in the state of Tennessee.
Hours
Call for information. Participants are required to attend a Tuesday and Thursday evening class. Classes are offered once per month from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Parents of minor children who are divorcing or separating and live in the 23rd Judicial District.

Description
Tennessee Master Gardeners (TMGs) are trained volunteers that help the Extension Service share the latest and greatest gardening information. All volunteers are trained with 30 hours of horticultural classes. Master Gardeners who continue to participate in the program return at least 25 hours of service with a minimum of 8 continued education hours annually. The Master Gardener Program is offered by The University of Tennessee Extension. Its main goal is to increase the availability of horticultural information to improve quality of life with community garden/landscape programs. This could only be possible through the training and utilization of local volunteers.
