Fairs/Exhibitions
Organizations that conduct sales in which property or goods are sold to the highest bidder. Items available at auction may include surplus government property; material goods that have been repossessed, confiscated or donated or were a part of a private estate; or services that are offered for charitable purposes by local merchants or other providers. Auctions may be public events where people bid in person or by telephone; or online auctions in which participants bid for products and services over the Internet.
Annual events that are held at a set location in the county or the state which feature competitive exhibits of local agricultural products and livestock with prizes awarded for excellence. County and state fairs may also offer carnival rides and attractions, refreshment outlets and sporting events like horse racing.
Programs that provide opportunities for artists and craftspeople to exhibit and sell their wares (usually original pieces of jewelry, pottery, clothing, wood sculpture, paintings, weavings, batiks and other types of arts and crafts) at community-sponsored events.
Organizations that sponsor events in which local restaurants have booths in a central location and make representative dishes from their establishments available to people who attend.
Sales of used household or personal articles (such as furniture, tools or clothing) that are held on the seller's own premises or, in the case of an estate sale, at the home of an individual who has died.
Events that feature exhibits of flowering plants, shrubs, grasses and other decorative plants; cut flowers and other floral displays; gardening equipment and ornaments; nursery products; and other merchandise related to planning, developing and nurturing a garden. Other activities may include educational seminars, opportunities to meet landscaping and gardening experts, and demonstrations of the latest in gardening and landscaping techniques.
Expositions held at irregular intervals during which representatives of specific industries or trades exhibit their products for the benefit of the businessmen and women who attend as well as the general public. Trade shows may be local, regional, national or international in scope.
