Description:
Non-profit provides free and low cost coding programs, in-school, after school, at special events and during the summer for under-served middle school and high school youth in the Memphis metropolitan area (grades 5-12). Also offers a Career Boot Camp for adults which runs for 6-9 months; at the end of the program persons will be Software Developers and the agency assists also with job placement service; this program is income-based on a sliding scale fee; call for details. Currently CodeCrew is offering optional electives in public school locations where students learn coding (block based and text based coding) as part of their school schedules 4-5 days per week. CodeCrew also provides after school classes to build Android apps, program robots, practice physical computing and learn video game development with Unity. These programs meet weekly. Kids showcase their acquired skills in December and May Hour of Code events or weekend-long Hackathons. The Grizzlies Foundation-sponsored Grizzlies Code Camp offers Mobile App development, Robotics, and Circuits at varying skill levels during the summer season. Students learn design and programming using MIT App Inventor and Code.org, as well as other educational platforms. CodeCrew also has an intensive six month Code School for adults (all ages) geared toward teaching them to become software developers.

Program Fees:
After School Programs and Classes: $10.00; Summer Camp and Special Event Fees vary (may be free); no fee for students currently enrolled in schools in Memphis that offer coding as optional electives; Adult Boot Camp may be free, based on income; call for details.
Eligibility:
Youth in Memphis metropolitan area in grades 5-12 interested in coding; adults of all ages must be referred by a non-family member for six-nine month Code School

Professionals in the tech industry, parents and teachers, other interested adults are needed for non-technical mentoring and volunteering. Students involved in computer science studies are also welcome to assist at events and classes
