Bridges for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing!s mission is to build access, equity, and inclusion in partnership with the D/deaf, Deaf-Blind, and Hard of Hearing communities through advocacy, education, empowerment, and effective communication. A continuum of programs and services from birth through elders years are available. These programs and services include Advocacy (systems change work, DEI work), Adult Education & Outreach (ASL classes, trainings for first responders, law enforcement, employers; outreach presentations; social events; and more), Empowerment (social work/case management), Interpreting Services (available in person, virtually, and on demand), and Youth Education & Services (birth through high school programs). Description
Bridges offers two camp opportunities--one for hearing children and one for D/deaf and hard of hearing children. Camp Rise & Sign is an annual sleepaway camp for D/deaf and hard of hearing students (K-12), CODAs (children of Deaf adults), and hearing siblings. Camp is free. Camp Sign Me Up is for hearing children who want to learn ASL in a day camp setting and is offered on a weekly basis during the summer; a child may choose to participate for just one week or several weeks. Description
The Fitness Center at Bridges for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is open during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm) to any Deaf or hard of hearing individual free of charge. An orientation with wellness staff is required before anyone is allowed to use the Fitness Center for the first time. Appointments are required for orientation. Special fitness classes and activities may be offered in the evenings or on weekends. Videophones and computers are also available for use by the D/deaf, Deaf-Blind, and hard of hearing communities. Description
The agency's Youth Education & Services program provides Little ACEs (birth to five language acquisition and language deprivation program pairing families with D/deaf and hard of hearing children with Deaf Mentors who teach ASL, culture, advocacy, and practical parenting tips in weekly sessions), free ASL classes for parents of D/deaf and hard of hearing children, Signing ACEs (school-based mentoring, after-school program, online tutoring), and camps for D/deaf and hard of hearing children and their siblings, Deaf Education Workshops, advocate support for IEP meetings and other needs, etc. Clients in youth programs may also access agency-wide resources such as interpreting services, Empowerment (case management/social work), ASL classes, social events, Advocacy, and more. Bridges for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provides professional, high-quality American Sign Language interpreters, CART services, Video Remote Interpreting, and Access on Demand. In addition, we provide professional development for ASL interpreters and trainings and policy advisement for entities.
