Description:

Provides development of affordable, safe spaces for artists, their families and arts organizations throughout the country. Currently Artspace has 48 projects in operation in 20 states and three under construction, including the first one in the state of Tennessee in Memphis, which provides 63 units of affordable housing for artists. The South Main Arstpace Lofts is a mixed-use building that will offer 63 affordable apartments for qualifying households, as well as commercial space. Apartment units available will include ADA accessible and adaptable units for persons with disabilities; rental fee will include water, trash and sewer services, but not other utilities (these will be a separate charge); housing assistance vouchers (formerly known as Section 8) are accepted. Communal studio space will be free to use for residents of the buildings.

Intake Process:

To apply for South Main Artspace Lofts, contact local Memphis realtor Envolve LLC at www.artspace.org/memphis for information and applications and to sign up for updates on the project; applicants must provide a passport or state issued photo ID and proof of income in addition to the application and other materials as required.

Program Fees:

One time $10.00 Application Fee; rental fees for eligible renters vary by property

Eligibility:

Tenants must have income no higher than 50-60% of the Shelby County median income level; preference is given to artists, but all may apply if they meet income eligibility levels. Rental fee includes water, trash and sewer services, but not other utilities. Housing Assistance vouchers accepted.
