International Understanding/Peace Programs
Democracy and Civil Society Development
Programs that assist other countries with the process of democratization by educating their officials and citizens about the advantages of democratic rule, providing instruction for local officials regarding procedures for free and fair elections and monitoring the electoral process. Included are organizations that provide assistance with election planning and administration, election law development, political party development, constitutional development, and voter and civic education which may include training of government and civic leaders. Also included are organizations that promote a supportive legal and regulatory environment for civil society or otherwise strengthen individuals and organizations involved in the development of associated institutions and values.
International Cultural Exchange
Programs that provide opportunities for people to enjoy international cultural activities or attend art exhibits, music concerts, opera performances, dance exhibitions, theater performances or other events that are representative of the artistic and humanities traditions of other countries. The purpose of international cultural exchange programs is to foster an appreciation and respect for other cultures and deepen international understanding.
