Political Organization and Participation
Community Involvement Programs
Programs that seek to ensure broad participation by community residents in government decision making and the political process by encouraging them to serve on government boards and commissions; attend public hearings, council meetings, town meetings, school board meetings and other forums in which public policy issues are being discussed and decisions are being made; communicate with elected officials via correspondence, email, telephone or other means; participate in programs designed to familiarize people with local government departments, facilities and services; and use other similar vehicles to become proactively involved in community affairs.
Programs that provide information regarding the election process, the views and voting records of rival candidates for public office, the pros and cons of specific ballot issues, or election results; which encourage citizens to express their views by voting for the candidates or ballot measures of their choice; or which protect the individual's right to vote.
Groups of individuals with common political goals who have gathered together on a voluntary basis to work for the election of specific candidates for public office or to encourage the implementation of public policies that represent their ideological point of view.
