Description:

Provides 4-H agricultural youth clubs for schools, pressure cooker gauge tests on Mondays during the summer months, soil preparation assistance for backyard/commercial gardeners, plants/seeds/fertilizer information, home visits to backyard gardeners, technical assistance/information concerning growth/use/preservation of fresh vegetables, annual vegetable and canning exhibition, educational group meetings, awards/recognition to top gardens throughout the city, spring plant sale, summer youth gardening camp, master gardener program and agricultural education/production opportunities for youth. Provides educational programs focusing on strengthening individuals, families and communities through, improving nutrition and health, managing family finances in a program called Tennessee Saves and addressing child care needs. Provides information on crop and livestock, including beef, swine, horses and small farm animals and other information on small farm management.

Mon - Fri 8:00 am - 4:30 pm; free pressure cooker gauge testings: Mondays during the summer months

Program Fees:

Fees vary, some services and programs are free; Master Gardener Program: $150.00

Eligibility:

TN residents; 4-H programs are for Shelby County residents ages 9-19; Master Gardener program requires 45 hours of horticultural training and participants must volunteer 40 hours of service back to the program to local non-profits. Any organization may request a free speaker on horticultural subjects.
