The Economic and Community Development Department is comprised of four divisions: Economic Development, Planning, Engineering and Neighborhood Services provide professional and technical services in the fields of economic development, planning, land use and control, stormwater management, sign ordinance administration, code compliance, and neighborhood services. Staff members provide support to the Planning, Design Review, Economic Development and Neighborhood Preservation Commissions, the Board of Zoning Appeals and the Industrial Development Board. The Economic Development Division focuses on business recruitment, development, retention, expansion, marketing, incentives, and data analysis. The Planning Division focuses on site plan review of new projects, plat layout of new subdivision, major changes to existing subdivisions such as the installation of gates, rezoning requests, and text amendments to the zoning code. Germantown Neighborhood Services Division acts as the information resource for city services, as well as residential and commercial code compliance.
