Description:

Provides burial plot and basic casket to persons whose legal residence and death are in Shelby County, Tennessee and who are indigent (NOTE: DOES NOT PAY FOR CREMATIONS). Historic cemetery site is at 8340 Ellis Road, off Germantown Road. In 2020, a new cemetery site was located at 5790 Raleigh-Millington Road, Millington 38053.

Hours:

Mon - Fri 7:00 am - 3:00 pm (Closed for holidays); Walk Gate to the Cemetery open 7 days a week

Intake Process:

The following may request burial: family members/friends of deceased, guardians, funeral directors, institutions, and hospitals. Requests must be made before burial date.

Program Fees:

No Fee

Eligibility:

Deceased must be residents in Shelby County at time of death AND (1) have insufficient funds for burial OR (2) have relatives who cannot be located OR (3) have relatives who are unable to assist with burial expenses. Must fill out application form and funeral home directors are required to provide additional documentation.
