Description:

Issues drivers licenses for automobiles, motorcycles, trucks; conducts driving tests for obtaining/renewing TN licenses. This facility has a TN Highway Patrol presence on site. This site also offers ID only cards (including free voting only ID), handgun carry permits, license renewals and duplicates and driving records. This site also offers voter registration for Fayette County residents.

Photo Only ID: Requires proof of citizenship (such as a birth certificate) and
two proofs of Tennessee residency (such as a copy of a utility bill, vehicle registration/title, or bank statement). Must also sign an affidavit stating that you have no other acceptable form of ID. This form can be printed from the website and filled out in advance.

Program Fees:

$12.00-$28.00/new license, based on age. Renewal fees vary. (Licenses available for mopeds and motor scooters with automatic transmissions not exceeding 125cc.); $8.00-$12.00/copy replacement licenses available at Reinstatement Building on Summer Avenue or the East Shelby Drivers Center; kiosks available at driver centers and other locations, including the Main Central Library, 3030 Poplar Avenue, Memphis 38111.

New voting only IDs are free, as long as the customer signs an affidavit stating that they have no other acceptable ID. Alternate acceptable photo IDs include current or expired passports, military IDs, or state or US government issued IDs or VA cards and state handgun permits with photos. Even an expired photo ID issued by a valid government agency qualifies. NOTE: Student IDs and City/county government issued IDs are NOT acceptable IDs for voting.

Languages:

Driver Service Centers with computerized testing offer the test in Spanish, Korean or Japanese. Translation dictionaries are allowed, but no electronic devices (PDAs, smartphones or electronic dictionaries) or interpreters that can assist during testing.

Ages 15 and above may apply (can apply for learner's permit at 15); ages 15-18 must submit minor/teen affidavit form signed by an an adult and school attendance form dated no later than the past 30 days. Must pass tests given by the division, be resident of Tennessee, present proof of age/identification/Social Security number. Ages under 18 must have parents sign affidavits of financial responsibility; those unable to obtain license for vehicular operation must verify age and identity to obtain state IDs.
