Description:

Registers/regulates charitable organizations, professional solicitors and professional fundraising counsels in the state of Tennessee. Provides information on charitable institutions who conduct public solicitation campaigns, shows, sales, concerts, lectures, annual gaming events, or other special events for the purpose of collecting money for charity. Maintains database of charitable organizations, accepts complaints about charitable solicitations, and accepts applications from charitable organizations that are required to register in TN. (NOTE: Certain Religious, educational, and civic organizations may not have to register as a charity with the state; 501(c) (3) tax exempt status is granted by the federal government.)

Intake Process:

Check the status of TN charities online, call, or email charitable.solicitations@tn.gov to complain. Charities may apply online to register their agencies. After-hours hotline to complain about solicitations: (800) 861-7393.

Program Fees:

Initial $50.00 filing fee/charity to register plus renewal fees based on annual gross income; No fee for information on charities registered in the state or to file a complaint. Some exemptions available.
