Description:

Provides discounted rates for portion of the MLGW utility bill that deals with solid waste and sewer fees for persons who are 65 and older and/or disabled and who meet income eligibility and other requirements. Applications take at least 45 days to process; after that time applicants may call the 3-1-1 Call Center to inquire about their application status.

Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00pm., Monday through Friday

Intake Process:

Complete and return the Solid Waste Fee and Sewer Rate Discount Application provided by the City of Memphis Public Works, with the needed documentation; print off the application and guidelines of eligibility from the website

Program Fees:

Eligible applicants will receive a discounted solid waste fee of $7.50/month plus a sewer rate discount (this sewer discount will be based on the volume of waste water used by each customer)

Eligibility:

To qualify for this discount, persons must have an active MLGW utility account in their name, be the head of the household, live in a household where the total combined income is $25,000 or less/year; and either be 65 years old or older OR be medically certified as being totally (100%) disabled; requires proof of age, proof of income (see application for acceptable proofs), physician's proof of disability if disabled.

Applications can be mailed in, but MUST be notarized; if applications are brought in person, they do not have to be notarized and can be turned in by either the applicant or by the applicant's power of attorney.
