Description:

Provides a variety of services to seniors including congregate meals, home delivered meals and transportation to residents of Bedford County. The senior program center provides a social environment for seniors aged 50 and older. Individuals are able to attend the center for recreation such as yoga, games, and arts and crafts' daily hot meal (Monday through Friday at 11:00 am); home-delivered meals for persons 60 and older in Shelbyville (there is waiting list); and center provides transportation within a 70 mile radius to the general public. Trip priorities include medical, employment, education, senior center/nutrition site, and social service agency visits needed by Bedford County residents.

Hours:

Senior Center Hours: Mon - Fri 8:00 am - 4:30 pm; Hot Lunch: Mon - Fri 11:00 am (Individuals attending the center for lunch must notify staff by 10:00 am the day prior)

Intake Process:

Call, email or walk in for information. Call to schedule transportation; transportation must be scheduled 2 days in advance. If traveling to Nashville or Murfreesboro appointments must be scheduled between 9:00 am and 12:00 Noon.

Program Fees:

Senior Center Annual Membership Fee: $15.00. Membership is not required however members receive a newsletter in the mail once a month. The newsletter provides information regarding activities and events offered at the center.

Hot Lunch at the Center: $1.50/meal

Home-Delivered Meals: If an individual is able to pay the meals are $7.00/day. If an individual is unable to pay, he/she will have to contact the district and provide proof of income to determine eligibility for reduced payment. Client does not have to receive meals everyday. Typically there is a waiting list for this service.

Transportation: Fees range from $2.00 - $35.00 depending on location.

Eligibility:

Senior Center and daily hot lunch is open to persons 50 and older in Bedford County; Individuals must be at least 50 years old and able to care for themselves. The facility does not have an onsite nurse. Home delivered meals are for those ages 60 and older who live in the Shelbyville city limits; Transportation is for Bedford County residents; all minors under the age of 17 who are traveling must be accompanied by an adult.
