Description:

Provides advocacy, information and referral, educational programs and events for persons of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families in northwest Mississippi. The Arc Northwest Mississippi offers events and programming that bring together the special needs community with their typically functioning peers to foster understanding and acceptance of persons with such disabilities. Programs include Camp BOLD summer camp for persons of all ages with I/DD; a parent support group for parents of persons with I/DD; Sibshops (activities for siblings of persons with I/DD); the Weighted Blanket Project, which provides weighted blankets for individuals on the autism spectrum; and the Job Readiness Program, which provides job training for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and social clubs for elementary to adults with I/DD.

Hours:

Mon - Fri 8:30 am - 2:30 pm (call for appointments outside of these hours)

Intake Process:

Call or apply online for most programs; email for information on the Weighted Blanket Project, which requires a referral by request to the agency from an Occupational or Physical Therapist (weightedblanketproject@gmail.com)

Program Fees:

No Fee for Parent Support Group or Weighted Blanket Project; Camp BOLD Summer Camp: $75.00 or $100.00 depending on membership status; Elementary Social Club and Sibshop Events: $15.00/Event; Little House Art Project: $20.00/Event. Scholarships are always available. The Arc Northwest Mississippi will provide funding for any individual/family that is not able to pay a program fee.

Eligibility:

Camp BOLD Summer Camp: open to persons 3-99 years of age with I/DD; Parent Support Group: Parents of persons with I/DD; Weighted Blanket Project: Persons on the autism spectrum; Sibshops: Siblings of persons with I/DD ages 6 and older; Job Readiness Program: individuals ages 14-21 with an intellectual and/or developmental disability; this office covers the Mississippi counties of Coahoma, Desoto, Marshall, Panola, Quitman, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tunica and surrounding counties in NW Mississippi; social clubs for elementary to adults with I/DD
