Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis' Aging in Place (AIP) Program usually serves homeowners age 60 and older in Shelby County (and occasionally Fayette County) and focuses on accessibility improvements, mobility modifications and critical home repairs that are crucial to help older homeowners live in their own homes longer. (Homeowner must own and live in the home full-time.) Agency takes applications over the phone on designated days only. Program Fees:

$17.00/Fee to persons approved for the program to cover the cost of recording the deed restriction with the Shelby County Register of Deeds; this is a grant and there is No Fee for services if the grantee stays in their home without selling it or otherwise transferring the deed for five years after repairs are done; if this happens before the five years are up, the applicant must pay back a percentage of the grant.

Eligibility:

Persons 60 or older in Shelby County (occasionally covers Fayette County residents) who own and live full-time in their own home and who need repairs that fall within the program; must meet income guidelines and not be behind on city or county property taxes or be behind on your mortgage; clients must participate in some surveys one year and three years after work is completed. NOTE: CHECK WEBSITE AS ELIGIBLILTY MAY CHANGE WITH DIFFERENT PROGRAMS.

Income Guidelines for Maximum Gross Household Income: One Person Living in Home/$28,860 or less; Two persons/$33,000 or less; Three persons/$37,140 or less; Four persons/$41,220 or less; NOTE: INCOME LIMITS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE IN SPRING 2022. Check website for potential changes.
