Description

Beginning and intermediate English as a Second Language classes are offered to non-native English speakers. The curriculum covers a broad spectrum of topics, and aims to improve English speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills.

Hours

The classes, taught by volunteer teachers and teacher assistants, meet twice a week, and are held mornings and evenings in Casa Azafrán. Classroom has moved to online. Terms run January to May, June to August, or September to December. Childcare provided, if needed.

Description

Conexion Americas works with partners to advocate for a welcoming Tennessee and inclusive policies at the local state and national levels. The Tennessee Educational Equity Coalition was formed in the spring of 2016 to harness the collective influence and voices of a diverse group of civil rights and education advocacy organizations across the state. The goal is to build a shared advocacy agenda that will address the chronic disparities in achievement and opportunities for students of color across the state.

Description

Mesa Komal, a shared kitchen space for entrepreneurs operated by Conexion Americas, carefully screens applicants in order to find indicators that suggest an entrepreneur's business readiness level. This screening process is also based on the facility's capacity in terms of space, equipment and scheduling availability.

Eligibility

Entrepreneurs who own, or want to start their own food business. Guests can rent shared kitchen space monthly. Priority is given to low-income and immigrant neighbors.

Monthly rental fees vary depending on time and space required.

Full- and part-time Spanish-speaking and non-Spanish-speaking volunteers are welcome to teach an English as a Second Language (ESL) class; assist with childcare during Adult ESL classes and other workshops; help with middle-school and high-school programs as a tutor, speaker or mentor; work with our nationally recognized homeownership, taxpayer and small business development programs; interpret at workshops, meetings and special events; lead children’s activities at our parent engagement workshops; and help with set-up and registration at special events.
