Description:

Provides free, unbiased and confidential one-on-one financial counseling for all Shelby County residents, regardless of income. Services include assistance with how to read and improve the client's credit scores, how to open a safe and affordable banking account or purchase safe financial products, how to deal with medical debt, collections and student loans, and how to create a budget and maintain it, among other types of financial advice. Certified financial counselors are not attorneys and do not provide investment advice. The center is located out East, but there are four other sites in the county where counselors can meet clients. Sponsored by the Shelby County government, UWMS, MLG&W, Women's Foundation for a Greater Memphis, Assisi Foundation and Rise Memphis. DTD partner agency. NOTE: DUE TO COVID-19, VIRTUAL SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE ONLY.

Hours:

Mon & Wed 9:00 am - 5:00 pm; Tue & Thu 9:00 am - 7:00 pm

Intake Process:

Call or go to website for appointment; must provide drivers license or state issued ID with Shelby County address/age; initial session (roughly one hour) includes a financial health assessment to guide future sessions and advice to the client
