Description
The YMCA's literacy program (Y-Literacy) helps struggling readers in grades K-5 gain confidence by increasing their reading comprehension and literacy skills. YMCA offers free one-on-one tutoring to students who are reading below their grade level. The curriculum covers all of the essential components of literacy: phonics, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary and writing. Through a team of volunteer tutors: Y-Literacy serves hundreds of children in the Nashville area 87% of whom have increased their reading level through the program On average, 1000 books are also distributed throughout the community each year
