The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security's mission is to serve, secure, and protect the people of Tennessee. This location does not offer any written or skills testing. Description

This center offers Duplicate Driver Licenses, Duplicate Identification Licenses, Driver License renewal, and Identification License renewal. There is no testing at this location, and no CDL services are offered.

Proof of U.S. Citizenship, Lawful Permanent Resident Status or Proof of authorized stay in the United States Proof of any Name Changes if Different than name on Primary ID Two Proofs of Tennessee Residency with your name and resident address - NO P.O. BOXES (Documents must be current. Must be dated within last 4 months.) A Social Security Number or sworn affidavit if no Social Security number has been issued. If you are under eighteen (18) years of age and do not already have a Class D or PD license, you will also need the Teenage Affidavit/Financial Responsibility form and proof of school attendance/progress. For a Hardship Class H Driver License you will need the documents listed above, as well as: Hardship approval letter noting authorized driving routes and times. This must be the original letter from Tennessee Department of Safety. If you are under eighteen (18) years of age and and wish to have a Class D or PD and a Class M Motorcycle License endorsement, you will need to present the items listed above and: Certification of 50 Hours Behind the Wheel Driving Experience (SF-1256)

      Proof of successful completion of a department-approved handgun safety course within the past twelve months, certified proof of U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency, handgun permit application, photo ID

      Eligibility

      Any resident of Tennessee who has reached twenty-one (21) years of age, or is at least eighteen (18) years of age and is an honorably discharged or a retired veteran of the United States Armed Forces, or is a member of the United States Armed Forces on active duty status, and includes with the application a certified copy of the applicant's certificate of release or discharge from active duty, DD214 or includes with the application a military identification card as proof that the applicant is an active duty member of the military, may apply to the Department of Safety for a handgun permit. If the applicant is not prohibited from purchasing or possessing a firearm in this state pursuant to Tenn. Code Ann. §39-17-316 or 39-17-1307(b), 18 U.S.C. 9 (g) or any other state or federal law and the applicant otherwise meets all of the requirements, the Department of Safety shall issue a permit to the applicant.

      Fees

      Renewal Permits: When you renew your permit, the new expiration date will be eight (8) years from the date the renewal permit was issued. Permits expire eight (8) years from the date of issuance. 8 year $50.00; Military $50.00; Upgrade to a Lifetime $200.00; Upgrade to a Lifetime Military $200.00; Retired Law Enforcement upgrade to a Lifetime $100.00. Fees are subject to change.

      Requirements for Obtaining a Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit Applicant shall submit proof of the successful completion of a department approved Handgun Safety Course within the past twelve (12) months. Call (615) 251-8590 to find out more information on handgun schools, locations and contact information. Provide CERTIFIED PROOF of U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency (no photocopies). Submit application at any full service Driver License Service Center location. Applicant is required to present a photo ID to the department at the time of filing the application. Pay non-refundable application fee payable by cash, certified check, or money order. When the application is processed at the driver services center, the applicant will be given instructions on being fingerprinted.

        Description

        This location only offers identification license duplicates and renewals. No new identification licenses will be issued. Driver services centers provide identification licenses for individuals who are not qualified to obtain a driver's license but need a government-issued photo ID. These ID licenses do not allow a person to drive. The first type of ID Only license is an "Expiring Identification License" that may be issued to any person not currently holding a valid driver license who presents positive proof of identification and all other requirements needed to obtain a driver license. The second type is a "permanent identification license" that any person who is intellectually or physically disabled may obtain. In addition to presenting a positive proof of identity, they must submit a certified statement from a licensed doctor stating they are unable to operate a vehicle. Those who qualify for this ID may receive it free of charge. ID licenses issued in this manner do not expire.

(b) Original documentation issued by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service acceptable to the Department of Safety.

        Eligibility

        This location only offers identification license duplicates and renewals. No new identification licenses will be provided. People who do not hold a valid driver license and are able to provide all required documents and people with intellectual or physical disabilities who are unable to operate a vehicle. As a service to Tennessee residents, families with children, including infants, may obtain these identification-only licenses for their children. Children must meet all documentation requirements.
