The Metropolitan General Sessions Court of Nashville-Davidson County is a high volume limited jurisdiction Court that hears civil, misdemeanor, felony, traffic, environmental, and metropolitan ordinance violations. This Court is served by eleven judges that are elected to an eight year term. There are also fifteen law-trained judicial magistrates that handle the probable cause hearings in the issuance of a criminal warrant and one referee that handles the environmental cases and other non-traffic metro ordinance violations.

Description
The Traffic Violation Bureau is a General Sessions Office responsible for processing the citations issued by various law enforcement agencies for the violation of Metro ordinances and/or State motor vehicle codes. Scheduling court dates, maintaining the citation record and collecting all fines and fees are among several of the various duties and functions of the office. The Traffic Warrant Division is the enforcement arm of the Bureau, actively pursuing motorists who fail to voluntarily satisfy their court ordered obligations. Potential sanctions include driver's license suspension, garnishment of wages or levy of property to satisfy the obligation.

Only Metro Court citations written for misdemeanors are given a court date at the time the ticket is issued. If you have been issued a Metro traffic or parking ticket, you will only be given a Court date if you wish to plead not guilty.
