Description:

Brings people together to grow, cook and share nourishing food, with the goals of cultivating community and alleviating hunger in our city through a just and sustainable food system in Cheatham and Davidson counties. The community garden project includes production, community and market garden programming. Three community gardens provide a space for participants to grow food for themselves and their families, sharing resources of lands, tools, and garden training. The gardens aim to create space for deep connection to the land and to diverse community-building strategies - places where both people and the land can heal. Community Meal program is open to organizations which cook and share thousands of made-from-scratch, nutritious meals and snacks each week in collaboration with anti-poverty and community building organizations in our city.

Intake Process:

TNFP operates through a partnership model; organizations may apply for our assistance. If you are an organization that is interested in becoming a meal partner, please submit an online application. To make an emergency food request, please submit an online application.

Eligibility:

Open to individuals and organizations in Cheatham and Davidson counties; COMMUNITY GARDEN: the Nashville Food Project prioritizes garden space for returning gardeners and people who identify as having significant barriers to growing food. Gardeners are expected to comply with a training and work schedule.

FOR ORGANIZATIONS APPLYING TO OFFER MEALS:
To be eligible for a meal partnership, an organization must demonstrate the following:
-Be Located in Middle Tennessee
-Serve people facing economic, health, cultural or social barriers to accessing nutritious food
-Support a regularly scheduled, ongoing gathering or program that helps reduce some of those barriers
-Have an average attendance of at least 20 people
-Prioritize decreasing food waste
-If receiving and handling food at your location, the facility must have clean dry storage and refrigeration. You must also either provide access to the facility or have a person available to receive all food deliveries.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Volunteer opportunities are available to work in the garden and help with meal preparation. More information can be found on http://www.thenashvillefoodproject.org/give-time/

To volunteer in agency kitchens, individuals must be at least 12 years of age (accompanied by an adult) or 14 years old (to work independently). To volunteer in our gardens, individuals must be at least 8 years of age (accompanied by an adult) or 16 years old (to work independently).

Fees

An annual community garden plot fee of $10-$70 is required, depending on plot size. This fee will go toward expenses of the community garden.

Intake Procedure

Apply to garden with us, either as a community gardener or an individual plot holder, by March 1 at thenashvillefoodproject.org/signup.
