Description:
Provides aid in the form of food (a food pantry on site with perishable and non-perishable food and agency partners with Second Harvest to provider occasional mobile food pantry distributions in the county; also provides monthly food deliveries to the persons who are older and/or disabled); clothing, prescription assistance, temporary shelter and limited financial assistance to the lower income citizens of Dickson County on an emergency basis. DCHC also runs a thrift store to fund the agency with low-cost household items.

Intake Process:
Apply online by clicking the GET HELP Button or call Mon - Thu 9:00 am - 12 Noon; may also walk in to fill out an application. Must provide all required documents (proof of Dickson County residency which can be substantiated with a utility bill, lease, driver license, state identification, or any other official document that denotes residency; proof of income such as a recent pay stub, SSI/disability letter, past year tax return, bank statement, letter from employer, Social Security letter, copy of checks, etc.; personal identification can be substantiated by providing any of the following including a valid and current driver license, state identification, passport, photo work ID, photo student ID, or an IRS issued W7 card). If seeking help with utility bill, must bring most recent bill or cutoff notice in your name. For rental/mortgage assistance, you must provide a lease or statement AND your late notice. For medication assistance, you must provide a current prescription. The agency can only assist with maintenance medications that are needed such as, but not limited to, blood pressure, hormone, diabetes, cholesterol, etc. Assistance is not available for pain medications, controlled substances, or narcotics.
Program Fees:
Services are free. Items in the thrift store are affordable and purchases support agency programs.
Eligibility:
Open to Dickson County residents who meet income eligibility guidelines. Assistance is available for eligible families who have had a financial crisis which led to falling behind on rent, utility bills and other urgent needs such as clothing, medication, gas/automotive repair and homeless assistance such as providing short-term hotel stays, bus tickets or gas for travel.

Wishlist:
Donations of nonperishable food; household items in good, working condition; and gently used clothing without rips, stains, unusual smells, or missing buttons are welcome. The agency is unable to accept computers, fax machines, or printers. Agency reserves the right to refuse any donations.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Volunteers are welcome to sort donations, work in the thrift store, and help with events. Call or stop by for more information.
