NOTE: PERSONS CAN WALK IN TO PICK UP AN APPLICATION, BUT STAFF ASK THAT THEY GO BACK TO THEIR CARS TO COMPLETE THE APPLICATION TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF PERSONS IN THE BUILDING AT ONE TIME; THEY CAN ALSO PRINT THE APPLICATION FROM THE WEBSITE, COMPLETE IT AND DROP IT IN THE MAILBOX OUTSIDE THE GATE. Provides utility bill payment assistance to households in Shelby County who have active MLG&W accounts, have not had help during the current program year, and who meet income & household size guidelines and other criteria when funds are available. The program may pay up to $650.00 on eligible applicants' utility bills. This is NOT the Energy Crisis program for people facing utility cut-off. NOTE: CSA only pays the portion of MLGW bill that covers electricity and gas. There is currently a waiting list for this program.

Applicants may deliver completed applications with needed documentation to pre-approved office locations OR mail it or they can Fax both the application and documents needed to (901-222-4314). Applicants must provide completed, signed application, copy of most recent utility bill, copy of proof of household income, copies of social security cards and proof of age for all household residents. Completed applications for regular (non-emergency) utility assistance will be processed within 10 days, and applicants will be notified by mail whether they will receive assistance from CSA.

Eligibility:

Shelby County residents who have active MLG&W accounts, have not had help during the current program year and who meet low-income and household size guidelines (must be at or below 126% of Federal poverty level); clients who provide documentation for one of the following may be eligible for more assistance: adult living in the home ages 60 or older; child living in the home ages five or under; disabled adult or child living in the home.

Income guidelines are calculated based on the last 30 days of income.


As of September 2020, income guidelines are: One person: $23,852/Year or $1987.67/month; Two persons: $31,191.00/Year or $2599.16/Month; Three persons: $38,530/Year or $3210.83/month; 4 persons: $45,689.00/Year or $3822.41/month; Five persons: $53,208.00/Year or $4434.00/month; Six Persons: $60,547.00/Year or $5045.58/month; 7 Persons: $67,886.00/year or $5657.16/month; 8 persons: $72,225.00/year or $6268.75/month; for each additional person add $7339.00/year or $611.58/month.
