CASA of Cumberland County, Court Appointed Special Advocates of Cumberland County

Description:

CASA's mission is to advocate for abused and neglected children in DCS court by being their "voice" in court and bringing their needs and wishes to the court team in their Cumberland County office. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) volunteers are local citizens who are trained, background checked and sworn in under oath by the juvenile judge to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in DCS court. A CASA volunteer provides the court team and judge with up-to-date information on the child/children. This information can help the judge make a more informed decision for the child's future. The CASA volunteer talks with the child/children, parents, family members, social workers, school officials and others who are knowledgeable about the child/children's history. A CASA volunteer is required to spend 10-15 hours a month and will not be assigned more than one to two cases at a time. The CASA volunteer will travel with the child/children throughout their journey in court until safe permanency can be achieved.
