Description:

Provides a day and evening shelter to women and their children experiencing homelessness in Rutherford County. Clients are also eligible for coaching and some forms of financial assistance to help with housing. Must be experiencing homelessness and register as a client with Stepping Stones for financial assistance. Admission to the night shelter and Rapid Rehousing comes through the community Coordinated Entry system. Stepping Stones serves as an access point for Access Rutherford, the coordinated entry system for Rutherford County.

*NOTE: Registration for the overnight shelter ends at 4:00 pm each night, call for more information.*

Hours:

Day Shelter: Mon - Sun 8:00 am - 4:00 pm (7 days a week)
Access Rutherford appointments available Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm

Intake Process:

Intake hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Clients are encouraged to schedule an appointment for an intake. During Intake, clients are also connected to Access Rutherford by completing registration with Stepping Stones. Clients will complete a background check (registered sex offenders and those with violent crimes or crimes against children cannot be admitted due to the presence of children). Ideally, the applicant should have a photo ID as well. Once the application is complete, the client will meet with a member of our team for a review of programs, expectations, and a tour.

Shelter Requirements:

Single women, single women with children. Must be able to pass a background check looking for violent offenses, crimes against children, or sex offender registry. Prefer photo ID to be presented at the time services are requested. Typically, clients utilizing night shelter should be able to return to the shelter by 4 pm for check-in each day. Clients should be able to live independently, meeting their own daily needs with little to no assistance aside from staff volunteers.

Paper goods (toilet paper, paper towels, kleenex), cleaning supplies, disposable kitchen products (plates, napkins, utensils), gas cards, and hygiene products. Small increment gift cards for fast food locations are also beneficial.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Description

Provides a community day shelter for women and children in need in Rutherford County. Day shelter clients can access the showers, laundry facilities and meals. Computers are available for individuals searching for employment opportunities. Clients are encouraged to connect with a case manager for support and goal setting.

    Description

    Also provides a night shelter for up to 12 women and children. Guests are transported to a church at 5:00 pm and served dinner. Many churches provide activities or free time. The women then sleep at the church and are brought back to the shelter the next morning. Some nights, the women are in shelter with a volunteer. All night shelter program participants are expected to meet with our case manager to set goals and work towards "Next Steps" during their stay.

    Night Shelter begins at 4pm but space is limited.
