Description:
The Memphis Ambassadors Apprentice Program is a year-round enrichment program for 8th grade youth. This program is offered under the Memphis Office of Youth Services umbrella and represents youth across the City of Memphis in each of the council districts. Our Mission is to empower the youth and help to raise and maintain their GPAs to a 3.0 and above to advance into the Memphis Ambassadors Program (9th-12th grade).
Our sites meet three times a week for an hour and a half after school in partnered schools. We focus on Math, ELA, Science, and Life skills. Participants would need to bring homework, classwork, or failed tests to review. We also offer virtual intervention calls in the evenings for participants to receive additional help with homework, projects, classwork, or any other needs.
Parents are required to attend monthly parent meetings that detail the month's requirements and program updates. Participants will be required to complete community service. Participants can receive a monthly stipend as an incentive based on their attendance and participation.
During the summer, we host a Summer Leadership Academy for our incoming 8th grade participants. Summer Leadership Academy is 3-weeks of academic enrichment and life-skills, such as, financial literacy, conflict resolution, bullying prevention, and so much more. This provides students an opportunity to retain information they have learned during the school year and decreases the risk of summer slide or summer learning loss.
