AFIRM (A Father!€™s Involvement Really Matters) is a Fatherhood support program meant to be a safety net for fathers. We invest in Memphis Fathers to help them build capacity to reduce dependency. We equip them to provide for their children emotionally and financially for their children. We aim to increase economic mobility, increase reliability in sustaining child support payments and build capacity for healthy parenting and co-parenting.

Case Management Services /Child Support Case Management!€“ help identify barriers, create career plans, identify child support-related services Career Building and Placement !€“ Provided direct contact to employment and educational opportunities Structured Parenting Training / Co-Parent Supports !€“ 8 weeks/2 hours a week Structured Fatherhood Training curriculum lead by all male trainers to create a safe/relatable space for fathers to learn about the importance of being Father and introduction into co-parenting. We offer two sets of services. Once service includes financial, career, and structural parenting classes. The second set of services includes financial and career only. Structural parenting classes are not offered in this set of services. A randomization is done during the applications process which selects the set of services a father could receive while participating in the program.

AFIRM is a part of a study funded by the Tennessee Department of Human Services which is being conducted to determine how these pilot programs help people improve their economic well-being. During the study, all new eligible applicants will be randomly selected into one/three groups that receive a different mix of program services.

Clients are seen at the locations Monday - Thursday 9:00am - 3:30pm

Eligibility:

Fathers 18-40 years of age, Shelby County Residents, must have open or pending child support case, has to be U.S. Citizens and low-income. Must also express a willingness to want to change their financial status.
