UT Extension serves the citizens of Dickson County with educational programs in the areas of Agriculture, Family and Consumer Sciences, and 4-H Youth Development. The agency is an outreach branch of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, providing research-based solutions and information to the citizens of Tennessee.

Agency has agriculture and natural resource programs to educate farmers and homeowners and other agricultural and horticultural producers on the latest management practices needed to solve problems and improve production and marketing. Their programs also help Tennesseans protect the environment and improve the management, marketing, and use of natural resources.

UT Extension - Dickson County has a strong background with area agencies and networking on behalf of family programs. Program area focuses address health and safety, human development, food and nutrition. Agency offers educational programs focused on strengthening individuals, families and communities by addressing critical issues and needs, such as teaching parenting skills, improving nutrition and health, managing family finances, addressing child care needs, and others. In addition, they support their counties FCE Clubs. Formerly known as !€œHome Demonstration!€ and later !€œExtension Homemaker!€ clubs, the mission of FCE is to strengthen individuals and families through continuing education, leadership development and community service.

4-H Youth Development encourages diverse groups of youth to develop their unique skills and talents to the fullest potential. Young people participate in 4-H through clubs, special interest groups, after-school programs, camps and many other activities. !€œLearning by doing!€ through hands on activities and community involvement empowers 4-H!€™ers to develop and strengthen life skills. Youth participate in 4-H through school 4-H clubs, community clubs, special interest groups, after-school programs, camps and many other activities. Although there are many common activities, each county in Tennessee has its own unique programs and areas of emphasis. 4-H is a unique educational program for students in elementary through high school. It encourages diverse groups of youth to develop their skills and talents to the fullest. As 4-H!€™ers, youth actively participate in activities, events and projects that develop and strengthen life skills. 4-H is open to everyone.
