This Safety Net is used at local participating Mental Health Outpatient Agencies only; Please visit https://www.tn.gov/behavioral-health/bhsn.html to identify your local agency.

Behavioral Health Safety Net, Safety Net for short. In order to qualify: your annual income must be below 138% of the Federal Poverty Guideline, you cannot have access to other mental health insurance, must be 18 or older, must be a Tennessee resident and be a US Citizen/have a qualified alien status, and you must receive your mental health services from a participating community mental health outpatient agency.
There is also the Behavioral Health for Children that serves Tennessee children ages 3 to 17. There is no income criteria for children, and children with CoverKids or private/commercial insurance may be eligible for select services.

To locate a participating community mental health outpatient agency in your county, please go to the BHSN Provider Contact List on the website. If you need assistance locating the participating mental health agency in your area, please respond to this email with the name of the County that you live in, and I will send you the name and contact phone number of the agency serving your County. Please contact the mental health agency in your county to schedule an intake appointment to come in for mental health services and when you call, please let the agency know that you are interested in applying for the Safety Net Program. The agency will bring you in to fill out the application.

The Safety Net does not cover prescriptions, but Safety Net providers will assist in connecting you with pharmacy assistance. The most common pharmacy assistance is called CoverRx, which is operated through TennCare. Through CoverRx, you may be able to get up to 5 prescriptions per month off of a covered drug list through a pharmacy program called CoverRX. There will be a small copay starting around $3-$8 for each medication. Safety Net providers will assist with the CoverRx enrollment application as well as coordinating any other patient assistance programs that may be needed for prescriptions.

Varies by provider. Website is available 24 hours a day. Must apply online.
