Description:

Offers job training in vocational trades and educational/basic life/social skills training at residential sites for eligible youth, ages 16-24. Must attend orientation session at the the Front Street Admission Office in order to apply for a position (the Dr. Benjamin L. Hooks Job Corp Center in Memphis is the actual residential site where training takes place). GED or high school diploma may be obtained after entering program, but persons who already have their HS diploma or GED may also be eligible for the programs. Offers training as Certified Nursing Assistant, Welding, Heavy Machine Operation, Office Support, Truck Driving, Carpentry, Medical Technicians and Information Technology. Now offering LEED certification training for some green industries. Ex-felons may apply; each person will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Hours:

Call to confirm orientation session schedule; main office hours Mon - Fri 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; Weekly orientation every Wednesday at 9:00 am.

Intake Process:

Call to pre-register for orientation. No jeans, tennis shoes, doo rags or revealing clothing should be worn and males should wear shirts with collars. All applicants are subject to background check and drug screenings. Once an applicant attends orientation session, he/she is scheduled for an interview and eligibility for the program will be determined. Some income eligibility requirements apply.

Eligibility:

Ages 16-24 only; must be an American citizen or legal resident and meet income requirements. Requires the following documents: birth certificate, SSN card, shot record, high school diploma/transcripts (if applicable) and W-2 forms if applicant has worked. Ex-felons may apply; each person is evaluated on a case-by-case basis
